In continuation of my Despatch
No. 243 of the 22nd. of September, I have now the honour to
transmit the enclosed copy of a letter from the Chief
Justice covering a Memorandum containing the explanation
Your Lordship has called for of the Chief Justice's action
in writing to the "China Mail" on the subject of the
extension of the Vacations of the Supreme Court.
2.
To render many allusions in this
Memorandum intelligible to Your Lordship I append copy of
the correspondence noted in the annexed schedule, with the
Chief Justice and Chamber of Commerce up to the 6th. of
April last on the subject of the proposed extension of the
Vacation. The correspondence dating from the 6th. of April
is in Your Lordship's hands.

The Chief Justice complains in
his letter of 16th. September that I forwarded to Your
